Wade Taylor IV poured in 24 points, Manny Obaseki put his team ahead for good with a fastbreak dunk and No. 20 Texas A&M staved off Rutgers 81-77 to take fifth place at the Players Era Festival on Saturday in Las Vegas. In a game with seven ties and 10 lead changes, the Aggies (6-2) took a 78-77 lead when Solomon Washington pulled out a defensive rebound and heaved it up court for Obaseki to convert a two-handed slam with 2:12 to play. Rutgers lost a pass out of bounds, and Taylor made two free throws for a three-point game. Rutgers freshman star Dylan Harper went to the rim in the final seconds but had his shot blocked by Washington. Washington had 11 points, five rebounds and four blocks for Texas A&M. Henry Coleman III and Obaseki also finished with 11 points. For Rutgers (5-3), Ace Bailey led the way with 24 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Jeremiah Williams scored 20 points on 7-of-8 shooting and Harper had 18 points. Centers Emmanuel Ogbole and Lathan Sommerville each fouled out. Texas A&M scored nine of the last 12 points of the game after trailing by as many as nine earlier in the half. A 10-0 run early in the first half, capped by Washington's three-point play, gave the Aggies a 17-9 lead. Rutgers ensured Texas A&M would not lead by more than eight, as Bailey (13) and Harper (eight) combined for 21 of Rutgers' 34 first-half points. After Sommerville put up five straight points for Rutgers, the Aggies made three free throws in the final minute for a 40-34 halftime lead. Rutgers' 13-0 sprint early in the second half flipped the lead to 47-42 in its favor. Harper made a 3-pointer to get things going and Williams scored three straight buckets -- a dunk in transition, an easy layup and an offensive rebound and putback. Bailey's second 3-pointer at 12:51 put the Scarlet Knights up 63-54, but Texas A&M scored the next eight points. Then, down 65-62, Taylor made the Aggies' first 3-pointer of the game to tie it at the 8:21 mark. His team had missed its first 11 tries from long range. Texas A&M won despite going 2 of 15 from the arc (Rutgers was 6 for 26) and being outrebounded 42-35. --Field Level MediaA landmark defence pact between North Korea and Russia, signed by its leaders in June, has gone into effect after the two sides exchanged ratification documents, North Korea's official KCNA news agency said Thursday. The formalization of the treaty comes as the United States and South Korea have accused the nuclear-armed North of sending more than 10,000 soldiers to help Russia fight Ukraine. Experts say North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is keen to acquire advanced technology from Moscow and battle experience for his troops in return. Kim and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the strategic partnership deal during the Kremlin chief's visit to Pyongyang. It obligates both states to provide military assistance "without delay" in the case of an attack on the other, and to jointly oppose Western sanctions. It came into effect from Wednesday, when the ratification documents were exchanged in Moscow by the countries' vice foreign ministers Kim Jong Gyu and Andrei Rudenko, KCNA reported. Lawmakers in Moscow last month voted unanimously for the deal and it was later signed by Putin. Pyongyang said it was ratified by a decree from Kim. The treaty will serve "as a strong driving force accelerating the establishment of an independent and just multi-polarized world order without domination, subjugation and hegemony," KCNA said. Analysts have suggested Pyongyang could be using Ukraine as a means of realigning its foreign policy. By sending soldiers, North Korea is positioning itself within the Russian war economy as a supplier of weapons, military support and labour — potentially even bypassing traditional ally, neighbour and main trading partner China, they say. North Korea and Russia have strengthened their military ties since Moscow's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Both countries are under rafts of UN sanctions -- the former for its nuclear weapons programme and the latter for the Ukraine conflict. Kim said last week during a visit to Pyongyang by Russian Defence Minister Andrei Belousov that his government, army and people would "invariably support the policy of the Russian Federation to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity". Putin hailed the deal in June as a "breakthrough document". bur-sst/bjtSpeaking at the News9 Global Summit, Anuj Gupta, the co-founder of Sudeva Delhi FC, emphasised on how India can rise in football in the coming years and the major steps that are needed to be taken to make India a footballing nation. New Delhi: Making India a footballing nation was one of the major agendas discussed in depth during Day 2 of the News9 Global Summit in Stuttgart. Walking into its second day, the event saw several exciting sessions unfolding in the German city on Friday. At the three-day event, sports has been earmarked as one of the major aspects of Indo-German collaboration alongside culture, economy, technology, business, and others. During the session, ‘ India as a Footballing Nation: A German Template’ , the beautiful game was discussed with respect to its low prominence in India and the steps to change its status. Germany has notably been active in the promotion and development of football and has also taken several initiatives to spot, scout, and nurture fresh talent, making them professional stars. Even Bundesliga partnered with the TV9 Network to pledge commitment to nurturing the Indian football ecosystem. Sudeva Delhi FC’s co-founder Anuj Gupta was one of the four panelists called upon the stage during the interactive session as he shed light on increasing the level of football in India. “We need a poster boy. If we can produce top players from India, that can inspire millions of grassroots players to get into the sport and not look at the performance of the national team but rather look at youth development,” Anuj said. He was also of the opinion that for any sport to excel, one needs role models, which isn’t the case in India. Anuj also laid emphasis on “patience” which India require to climb up in football. “We need more time and need to be patient to take India to a greater level in football. Hopefully we will produce first professional player very soon and he may play for VfB Stuttgart in the future,” Anuj added. “In a nutshell, I believe we need to produce one player who plays at the top level in Europe,” says Anuj Gupta, Co-Founder, Sudeva Delhi FC #News9GlobalSummit #News9GlobalSummitGermany #TV9Network #IndiaGermany @bhardwajmeha pic.twitter.com/bHHwhoa7NV — News9 (@News9Tweets) November 22, 2024 What India actually need to become a footballing nation? Also speaking at the session was the Chief Marketing & Sales Officer of VfB Stuttgart, Rouven Kasper, who was straight up asked about the biggest things India need to become a footballing nation. Rouven had a very intellectual answer to this as he said, “India need two things to become a footballing nation – need to believe that they can develop football and they need good people.” “India need two things to become footballing nation – believe that they can develop football and they need good people,” says Rouven Kasper, Chief Marketing & Sales Officer, VfB Stuttgart #News9GlobalSummit #News9GlobalSummitGermany #TV9Network #IndiaGermany @bhardwajmeha pic.twitter.com/wg6WnrrvnQ — News9 (@News9Tweets) November 22, 2024 Rouven added that the nation need to believe in one “good collaboration” and the “right concept” and a “sustainable way”. “Summarise it (collab), figure out if it is successful or not and find the right people (to excel in football). When there are right people together in one boat and if found the right people for building football, it can flourish heavily,” Rouven said during the session. Also among the panelists were Kay Dammholz, Director of Media Rights at DFB, and Peer Naubert, the CMO of Bundesliga who too talked in detail about building India’s football ecosystem and what can the nation take away as lessons from Germany to build football from the grassroots level. Gamers and hobbyists across the Friendly City gathered at Dukes Plaza on Wednesday afternoon for the grand opening of Watchtower Games. The small business, focused on tabletop gaming such as board games, trading card games, and war games, opened in Dukes Plaza on South Main Street in Harrisonburg. The shop will be open from 1 to 10 p.m. seven days a week, according to Josh Roberts, the shop’s owner. The shop offers a variety of complete board games and starter sets for tabletop games that revolve around collecting and building your force, such as Dungeons and Dragons, Warhammer 40,000, and Magic: The Gathering. In addition, the shop features four tables with 16 seats to accommodate trading card games and two larger, bar-height tables for war games that require more space. Roberts also said that community members donated game pieces like terrain for other gamers to use when visiting the store to make games more accessible and enjoyable for the entire community. Within 30 minutes of the store opening for business, gamers sat at tables to share games in the new space. Among them was Liam Ring, president of James Madison University’s Science Fiction and Fantasy Guild, or SFFG. He said it was good to know there was somewhere off JMU’s campus for gamers like him. “It’s nice to know that I have somewhere off-campus that I can meet up and play games with other people, support local gamers and their business, and just meet new people to play games with, and that there’s always a community here to support me,” Ring said. “As long as I don’t have work, I could see myself coming in here every day. It’s everything I imagined it would be when Josh made the announcement online.” Similarly, Eli Hess, 21, of Harrisonburg, came to play Warhammer 40,000. He said that after the stir-up at Gamer Oasis, he appreciated having another gaming shop in his hometown. “It’s not Charlottesville, it’s not Staunton,” Hess explained. “I don’t have to drive too far to get a game. It’s just nice having a place that is local and still relatively in town. Heck, if I can help this store get off its feet and stay around for a while, I’m going to help it.” John Missal, 49, of Harrisonburg, said he hoped to be able to support the gaming community at Watchtower. “I’m hoping to support a new business, especially in light of what’s been happening with the gaming community here,” Missal said. However, Missal said he wasn’t sure if he would visit the store more to play games or buy miniatures for his growing Warhammer armies. While the shop is finally open for business, Roberts said the relief still hadn’t sunk in as of Wednesday afternoon. “I’m just catching my breath,” Roberts said as customers wandered into the shop. “I think it’ll hit me in a couple of days. It’s still the chaos of just trying to do as much and go as quickly as possible. I’m excited to be able to do this with and for everybody. It’s a little bit for me, too, but it’s definitely a community-based business model.” In the future, Roberts said he hopes to expand Watchtower’s offerings with future orders from suppliers. In addition, he said he plans to offer special orders from games and product lines that have a broader range than he could fully stock, like war games company Games Workshop or the war game Conquest. In a recent address at Jiwaji University, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi called on Indians to shed their 'mentality of slavery' and take pride in their rich cultural heritage as a step towards becoming a developed nation. He emphasized that India's education system uniquely combines knowledge with values, unlike the Western approach. With Indians achieving significant success globally, Trivedi noted India's leadership in digital payments and key roles in tech giants like Google and Microsoft. Highlighting socio-economic contrasts with neighboring countries, he pointed out the West's delayed women's rights and cited political turmoil in Bangladesh. Trivedi argued for India's position as a global leader in both cultural and technological fields. (With inputs from agencies.)

PITTSBURGH -- The Steelers will be without their top wide receiver George Pickens on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles . Pickens is recovering from a hamstring injury incurred in the days before the Steelers' Week 14 win against the Cleveland Browns . He was ruled out in Friday's final injury report after not practicing all week. Pittsburgh also ruled out safety DeShon Elliott (hamstring) and defensive end Larry Ogunjobi (groin) after neither practiced all week. Editor's Picks Are the Chiefs the worst 12-1 team of all time? We ranked the bottom five 10h Aaron Schatz Our guide to every Week 15 NFL game: Matchup previews, predictions, picks and nuggets 6h NFL Nation Without Elliott, the Steelers have a significant void in their run defense as they prepare to face NFL leading rusher Saquon Barkley . "As next man up, I think we predicate ourselves as a defense that prides themselves on smashing the run," safety Minkah Fitzpatrick said. "So whether our top run defender is out or not, we still got to do that." Since being acquired in free agency earlier this year, Elliott has been a disruptive force in the secondary with one interception, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and six passes defensed. With Elliott out, the Steelers will rely more on versatile defensive back Cameron Sutton and safety Damontae Kazee to play alongside Fitzpatrick. "All the guys that we have in our secondary, we played a lot of ball together," Fitzpatrick said. "So when a guy does go down, it is comforting to know that we played a lot of ball with the next man up. So there's not a lot of communication or lack of trust there." Ogunjobi has 1.5 sacks this season along 37 tackles, including five for loss. He has also recorded seven quarterback hits. With Ogunjobi sidelined, the Steelers will lean on a combination of Dean Lowry , Keeanu Benton and Isaiahh Loudermilk to play up front with Cam Heyward. The Steelers also listed nose tackle Montravius Adams as questionable for Sunday's game, though he is still on injured reserve and would have to be activated Saturday in order to play.

ANTHONY JENNINGS – Actor Anthony Jennings makes a surprising return to social media, marking a dramatic comeback amid his recent cheating scandal. After a prolonged break from social media amid a cheating scandal, Anthony Jennings has resurfaced to promote his Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) movie, And The Breadwinner Is.... On Monday, Dec. 23, the Kapamilya actor shared the official poster of the Jun Lana-directed film on Instagram. His caption, “TWO DAYS NA LANG, YAYAIN NA ANG BUONG PAMILYA!” (Just two more days, bring the whole family!), conveyed his excitement for the movie’s upcoming release. Despite the lively promotion, both Jennings and his co-star Maris Racal, who is also his love team partner, were conspicuously absent from the film’s premiere on the same day. Their absence raised questions, given the public controversy surrounding the two. The movie boasts a stellar ensemble cast, including Vice Ganda, Eugene Domingo, Gladys Reyes, Jhong Hilario, MC, Lassy, Kokoy de Santos, and Joel Torre, offering a blend of humor and heartfelt storytelling. Jennings and Racal have been at the center of controversy following allegations from Jennings’ non-showbiz ex-girlfriend, Jamela Villanueva, who shared screenshots of intimate exchanges between the actor and Racal. The screenshots surfaced before Jennings and Villanueva ended their relationship. Racal later acknowledged her role in the situation, explaining that Jennings had misled her into believing his relationship with Villanueva had already ended when he started pursuing her. Jennings issued a public apology to both Racal and Villanueva, expressing remorse for the hurt he caused. However, he chose not to elaborate further on the matter. Reactions to Jennings’ return to the spotlight have been mixed. While some commend him for focusing on his career, others remain critical, questioning his lack of clarity on the unresolved controversy. And The Breadwinner Is... premieres nationwide on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, as part of the MMFF lineup. Many are curious to see whether the personal issues surrounding Jennings and Racal will influence the movie’s reception.Wes Moore on Luigi Mangione case: ‘The way we solve things is not by killing people’
